Hey, y'all!
My name is Cheyenne and I blog about DIY, home decor and family life over at Sense & Serendipity. I am so happy to be joining you here at Plank & Mill today! I can't wait to share with you how we transformed our dated and boring fireplace wall into an amazing feature in our room using the incredible products by Plank & Mill! When we moved into our house, I knew I wanted to do something about our dated fireplace wall. There was nothing wrong with it, it was just very 1994. I wasn't quite sure what I wanted to do with it yet, especially because I'm limited by my husband's GIANT t.v. that lives on the wall above the mantle (ugh, men). But then I discovered Plank & Mill and I knew exactly what we were going to do to give our fireplace wall a bit of an update.
First Things First
The first thing we did was remove all the mid-90's chic decorative trim. We used a straight razor to separate the paint of the trim from the wall behind it. Then we used a tool to shimmy behind the trim and pried it away from the wall. As soon as we were able to fit a few fingers under the piece of trim, we gently pulled each piece out of the wall.
Next Up
We then peeled off any leftover paint and scraped away any rough spots. Then, I dusted the wall with a microfiber cloth to make sure it was clean and ready for the planks. Next, I busted open my box of peel-and-stick whitewashed wood planks. I chose the whitewashed wood because it reminded me a bit of shiplap and it is beautiful!
Wow!
This product is so amazing: it is real wood, cut very thin, with super sticky adhesive strips on the back. The planks are so lightweight, but completely sturdy. We followed the instructions on the box and got started applying the planks to the wall above our fireplace mantel. The process of measuring, cutting and applying the planks was extremely easy and we were able to get the whole project done in a few hours! We were so impressed by how easy these planks were to install and the finished project makes such a huge impact in our room! My husband was also impressed with this Plank & Mill product and he asked where else we might be able to use it! When my skeptic of a husband approves of a product, I know it's a keeper!
We love our feature wall so much now and I am so excited to decorate our mantel and show it off. I've already had so much fun decorating for fall.
I used greenery, old books, weathered candlesticks and smaller brass candlestick, sprinkled with gray, blue, and white pumpkins to create my fall mantel.
Recently, I decorated the mantel for Halloween. I just added a few spooky birds houses, black birds, spiders and silly little ghosts my kids insisted on adding. I just love decorating my mantel now.
Our wood plank wall makes such a huge difference in our room that I want to highlight it! I can't wait to decorate for Christmas! What do you think of our wall? I can't get over how much better it looks and what a statement it makes. Thanks, Plank & Mill, for helping us transform our living room and making the process as easy as possible!
